Our Philosophy
At The Dancers’ Workshop, we believe that dance classes must focus on the whole child learning proper technique and movement through developmentally appropriate instruction by master teachers. Rather than being an expensive, recital-based or competition-type studio, we believe in concentrating our efforts on developing proper technique in dancers to ready them for further study and/or performance opportunities. This not only results in better trained and polished dancers but also helps maintain a more reasonable cost to our families. At The Dancers’ Workshop, classes meet the needs of each individual dancer, whether for fun, recreation, physical fitness or the pursuit of a serious career in the arts.
Our Approach
Dance is intensely physical. In fact, dancers’ bodies can suffer many of the same wear and tear problems that athletes do. The two ways to eliminate or minimize stress injuries are:
-
Proper Training: Each dancer must learn and use proper technique at all times and proceed at their own pace as they advance thru the increasing degrees of difficulty of dance. The Dancers’ Workshop is both age-appropriate and technique driven, utilizing the principals of American Ballet Theatre and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet’s training methods. Dancers are evaluated upon entering our program to determine their appropriate level.
-
Properly Designed Dance Floor: Dance floors must be designed to absorb some of the abrupt shock associated with jumps and landings. All of our studios are constructed with suspended wooden floors over a slab. A wooden lattice between the dance floor and the slab provides resilience reducing the stress on the dancers body. This is critical for the long term health and well being of the dancer.
Policies & Information
- Due to limited space, parents and other visitors are not allowed into the lobby. Only dancers are allowed into the studio and they will be admitted by their instructor or office staff before class. Parents may wait for their dancer in their vehicle or return at the finish of class. Please pick up your child promptly after class.
- Dancers are encouraged to arrive completely dressed and ready to begin class with hair pulled back as well.
- Students must remain in class until dismissed by the teacher. If a student needs to leave early, she/he must inform the instructor prior to class and at the time of departure.
- Students must remain in the building while waiting for a ride.
- All cell phones in the building should be placed on silent or vibrate.
- Bad Weather or other unscheduled closures follow LSU and the EBR Parish School system.
- Please be on time for class. Injuries result from lack of proper warmup. Attendance of the complete class is necessary to progress with the class.
- Enrolled students who miss classes are allowed to make them up at or below their level. Make-ups must be within 30 days.
- Outside trash, food, gum, and drinks are NOT permitted in the building. Only water bottles with secure tops are allowed.
- Attendance is taken during each class. Students who are not attending regularly will be contacted by the office, and regular tuition will be charged unless approved by the directors. It is the students’ responsibility to call the office to note any excessive absences.
Parking Lot
We are aware that our parking lot is tight, so please help us keep drop-off/pick-up moving efficiently and safely!
- No one is allowed to park in the lot of the Best Touch Salon (the pink building just to our left as you are facing the door of The Dancers’ Workshop). The owner of that building has told us that towing will be strictly enforced.
- When you enter the parking lot, go around to the right of the cul de sac.
- Dancers 1st grade and up may be dropped off at the curb.
- Pre-K and Kindergarten dancers must park in a parking space and be walked in.
- Unload dancers in booster or car seat from a parking space and not the curb.
We sincerely appreciate everyone’s positivity, cooperation, and support to help keep our Dancers’ Workshop family safe and sound!
